PROJECT OVERVIEW

The bridge in the middle of Bangkok is commemorating the memory of King Rama VIll and is a prestigious part of the Bangkok transport system. It crosses the Chao Phraya River with the tower located on the river bank. The river side stays are arranged in double plane and the back side stays in a single plane. The total length including the approach spans is 2.45 km. For news and reports about the construction progress please go here

It is a asymmetric cable-stayed bridge with a 300m main span and 175 m back span. The single pylon is 165m high post-tensioned concrete.  It will support the concrete and steel spans.

PROJECT UPDATE

August 10, 2000

Slip forming the pylon began in March and should finish in October.  Deck erection has begun. Erection of the main span should be in November and will be performed using the free cantilever method.  The deck sections will be placed from barges and held up by the cables working their way out.
